Catching-up and Sketch Solutions Lesson 9

It was a hideously hot weekend.  And there appears to be no break this coming week - you know I'm happy.  NOT.  As a result, I didn't do much outside of light cooking and basic cleaning.  Otherwise, I was hunkered down in my basement. . .unfortunately, nowhere near my studio.  boo.

I did work on my Phone Photography Project 2 lessons, by snapping some photos - there's little movement or sweat involved with that.  You can see my shots for lessons in light and action on Instagram.  They'll appear in my Project Life® albums as well.  I need to get my recent photos uploaded to the classroom.  I also need to get my #100HappyDays photos uploaded here on the blog.

The Super Stash Busters class starts next week, and I'd really like to finish up the four remaining Sketch Solutions lessons before I start the next class.   Below is Lesson 9, which I completed when we were up at Taylor Park.

The class sketch was a one-pager, which I, again, turned into two.  The class sketch also had an enlarged photo, for its focal point.  I don't do enlargements - maybe twice that I can think of.  To get a similar affect, or use of space on a layout, I'll mat a photo instead.  Sometimes I'll either add multiple mats or I'll embellish the mat to add the weight the larger photo would have garnered.  I mirrored and rotated the original sketch to get my two-pager.

I used the Smaller kit from November '13 (the Little Yellow Bicycle line.)  I'd used part of the kit on Lesson 8, so this used up the remainder of the kit and I got three pages from the one line.  Not bad.

I'll be looking for Lines for the current Phone Photo lesson and a cool spot to sit for the remainder of the day.  Here's to hoping I can find both in the same place.

Happy Tuesday,

#100HappyDays - Day 17/100

Day 17/100 - My favorite.  Summer.  Winter.  Doesn't matter.

This is also a shot for my first assignment in The Phone Photography Project 2, which is still open to register for.  The first lesson is on light.

Be Happy,

A Class, a Pie and a Little Hope

The Phone Photography Project 2 class started yesterday and I'm so looking forward to playing with photos again this year.  Gee, do you think I have enough photo taking going on?  The #100HappyDays project, now this?  I'm looking forward to discovering new apps, though as an Android user there are more than a few that don't cross from iPhone to Android, which is kind of a bummer.  And this year there isn't one contributing teacher using an Android, also a bummer.  But it's about using your phone to capture moments, not necessarily about the equipment used.

My first photo for the assignment will appear with my #100HappyDays post later today.  This is my second.  Hubby and I went out to dinner to celebrate the 27th anniversary of our first date - which is actually today, but we have the in-law dinner tonight.  I had coconut shrimp, just like on our first date, but didn't have to pick up the tab, unlike our first date.  It was nice, if a touch warm, to sit on the patio and enjoy the peace, food and really good drinks - which will be recreated after dinner tonight.

I didn't cook from Pinterest this week, but will be looking for recipes for next week, since I've used my Taste Of Home magazines the last couple weeks.  I'll be looking for recipes that don't make my kitchen like Hell on fire, so grilling or slow cooking, as the temps are back to mid-to-upper 90's.  Blah.

But.  I did make this awesome, no-cook Macadamia Key Lime Pie.  It was light.  It was refreshing.  It was easy.  It was gone!  Loved it.

The weekend is supposed to heat up, so I'm hoping to spend it doing something in the basement, after taking my older boys on their lawn mowing rounds.  Maybe there's something I can do in my studio.  Fingers crossed.

Happy Friday,

Day 16/100 - Salt Water Taffy. . .a weakness.  A serious weakness.

Advenutures in Purging - Part 3

You can find Part 1 and Part 2.

The StashBusters class (there's a new one starting!) that inspired my digging into my stash and using it, also inspired me to purge said stash.  (This phenomenon has spread to the Apron Strings store room - look out.)

It's time to ask ourselves, How long have I had it?

The longer you hold on to something without using it, the less likely it is you'll ever use it.  Now, if I excavate deep enough into my stash I'm gonna find some really old stuff that still appeals to me.  I'm not saying toss that.  I mean it's not a question of "do I like it."  I know I like it, but I would bring it to the forefront of my cubes, or maybe stack in on my work table to use next; get it in my sight and within reach.  So, no, I'm not talking about the old stuff you still love and know you still love (you're not trying to talk yourself into loving it - there's a big difference.)

I am talking about those old Maya Road tins that I tucked away years ago with grand plans.  You can bet your sweet tape runner that they're outta here, now.  Those foam stamps that have sitting in plain sight and I used once over five years ago, well let's just say the kindergartners next year are gonna be happy little stampers.  I've mentioned older kits that I purged once, but talked myself back into keeping them.  They are now gone now, too.

If you've had something for more than a year (which is why purging should happen more than once in a lifetime) and haven’t put it to use, or even thought of it, it’s probably time to move on.  If you're not sure, put it out, where you can see it and touch it.  Give it two weeks, tops.  If it's still sitting there, then, yep.  Buh-bye.

Go. Purge.
